Port Blair, Oct 08: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands has requested the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration for berthing cargo vessels at Mayabunder that are coming from Kolkatta and Chennai for convenient to the local businessmen of North & Middle Andaman and general public since no cargo vessels are berthing at Mayabunder since post lockdown ie. March, 2020.
He said that Mayabunder is the main port serving the local businessmen of Middle and North Andaman district but due to non berthing of cargo ships at Mayabunder port, the local businessmen of North & Middle Andaman district are adversely affected as well as it has also decreased the supply of essential commodities for the getting public which lead to hike of essential commodities.
Hence, the MP requested the Chief Secretary to look into the matter for berthing cargo vessels at Mayabunder coming from mainland which will not only bring relief to the local businessmen but will also help the lowering the price of essential commodities.
