Port Blair, Sept 23: A minor fire was reported from the Central Store Room of Police Station Central Crime Station (PS CCS) this morning at around 9.00 AM. As soon as the fire was noticed the matter was immediately communicated to the Fire Services, following which two fire tenders reached the spot and fire-fighters doused the fire within one hour.
As per reports the Central Store Room was not having any window or vent and was double locked. The Fire Fighters broke open the locks and because of timely action of Fire Services the fire was controlled with only minimum loss of property.
Sources said the huge amount of seized contraband substances were kept inside the Central Store Room and only minimum amount of contraband substances were destroyed by fire.
Although sources in Fire Service said that investigations are on to ascertain the cause of fire but it is believed that the fire was caused by Short Circuit. Further details are awaited.
