Port Blair, Sept 30: Mrs. Abola Samaddar, resident of Havelock Island, and Mrs. Balbir Kaur, resident of Campbell Bay, were yesterday declared elected as Adhyaksha and Up-Adhyaksha, Zila Parishad, South Andaman, respectively in the elections conducted by the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman. Both the winners are from the Congress Party. While the newly elected Adhyksha, Mrs. Samaddar won the seat by bagging 8 votes against her BJP rival who polled 7 votes in a house of 15, Mrs. Balbir Kaur pipped her rival by a margin of 3 votes.
Both the winners later called on the PCC President, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma and other senior leaders at Gandhi Bhavan. Congratulating the two ladies, Mr Sharma reminded them of women’s power and their noble deeds for the welfare of the country. He hoped that the duo will leave no stone unturned for the betterment of the Islands and welfare of the islanders, said a PCC communication received here today.
