Earlier there were news that one person from Ongi Tikrey has been tested positive which triggered speculations about COVID infection among Ongi Tribals but a senior officer in Little Andaman, who does not want his name to be quoted has clarified that a Ongin Tikrey is a name of a place where no Ongi Tribal population reside.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the senior officer of Little Andaman said that all the 09 people were tested COVID-19 positive in a rapid Antigen test conducted on them, when they wanted to travel to Port Blair.
Meanwhile, he clarified that all patients are normal and all of them are also asymptomatic. “Two are admitted in the RK Pur Hospital’s isolated ward and the rest are in ALHW Guest House which is the COVID center for Little Andaman,” the senior officer added.
