Port Blair, September 16: Several houses at Prothrapur, Ward Number 19 are at extreme risk of landslides- posing a threat to both lives and properties.
Even yesterday due to heavy rain a landslide occurred in the area, however, there was no loss of property or life in this case but villagers say that in future major land-sliding in the area is also possible.
“If no action for constructing a retaining wall is taken at the earliest several houses here including mine will suffer heavy damages due to the landslide,” said Mr. Senthil a resident of the area.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Senthil said that several times they have given written requests to the authorities.
“We had even complained to the MP, Andaman, and the Nicobar Islands, who also visited the spot but we got no relief yet,” he said.
Further talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Trimurti a resident of the area said that the area also lacks a road or a footpath as a result of which they are forced to walk with items to reach till home and in case of emergency they also have to carry a patient till the main road to get an auto-rickshaw or bus.
“We have given a letter to the Municipal Council, the staffs also came and took the measurements, the estimate was prepared but there is no output yet,” said Mr. Shankar, another resident of the area.
The residents of the area are now demanding immediate attention and the ignorance by the authorities may result in any untoward incident in the future.
