Rangat, September 09: Six COVID-19 cases have been reported from Rangat, Middle Andaman yesterday. Out of six, one is said to be a Nicobari Tribal.
As per reports, the samples of around 07 suspected cases were sent 02-03 days back to Port Blair for testing, out of which 04 found to be COVID19 positive.
After the positive cases have been reported in Rangat, rapid tests of four more suspected people were conducted today at the Community Health Center, Rangat, among them, 02 were reported positive.
As per sources, two tested patients were kept in isolation already in the COVID19 ward of the CHC Rangat, while two others were admitted today, however, the Revenue Department has been approached to bring the other two positive cases to the CHC, it is learned.
As several have been tested positive in the region, many people in the area are deeply worried.
Although there is no clue yet on how the virus spread among the residents of Rangat, many claim that it has spread due to the lackadaisical attitude of the general public and also government officials in some cases.
Andaman Sheekha on the 07th of September highlighted the concerns of the residents of the area, where they complained about 03 doctors seeing 03 patients in one chamber at a time.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, a senior officer of the CHC Rangat said that it cannot be the hospital from where the virus has come as no outpatients are allowed to roam near the COVID ward of the hospital.
The senior officer also said that the hospital is well equipped to handle increasing cases in the region by saying that the hospital has a 14 bedded COVID ward.
“We are only admitting the suspected cases in the ward and the asymptomatic patients are asked to go under self-isolation, we also have a quarantine center in Betapur,” said the senior officer of the CHC.
The DC, North, and Middle Andaman, Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan might visit Rangat tomorrow to look after the situation, unconfirmed sources said.
