Port Blair, August 09: Mr. Subir Chander, Adhyaksh, South Andaman Zilla Parishad today raised question that when Long Island, with low population, is being connected with the CANI Submarine Cable project, then, why the ‘Shaheed Dweep ‘ with more population and with tremendous economic potential has been excluded?
According to Mr. Chander, exempting Shaheed Dweep from OFC is unjustified, “the decision on any ground does not favor Long Island and facilitating Long Island with OFC, I feel, can only be the decision of the top-class people invested heavily in the Long Island,” said Mr. Chander
Although, the residents of Shaheed Dweep whose main source of income (Tourism) hampered badly due to the pandemic and are struggling for bread and butter are crying foul with this decision of Government of India.
The residents of the Shaheed Dweep Island are now demanding from the administration to provide them the OFC SMC project connectivity so that they can also reap the benefit of high speed internet.
