Port Blair, Aug 06: It has been learnt that seven crew members of cargo ship MV Chuglam have develop Corona like symptoms, which are fever, body pain and sore throat. The crew members reportedly got infection from another senior staff of the ship who had visited MV Chowra before sailing and reports are also coming that many crew in MV Chowra have similar symptoms.
Surprisingly MV Chuglam already touched Kamorta Island before reaching Campbell Bay, where dozens of people reportedly came onboard and worked with the crew members to offload cargo.
At Campbell Bay again dozens of labourers came onboard the ship today to offload cargo and from Campbell Bay the ship is about to sail for another tribal Island.
Question is why immediate testing of these crew members for Corona has not been carried out even after reports. Why District Administration of Nicobar did not ask the ship to sail for Port Blair directly when there is a doubt that these crew members might be infected with Corona.
Today 4 crew members tried to visit the PHC Campbell Bay but they were stopped by police, Later a health team was sent to the ship where after health check the crew members were given the medicines.
This matter was taken up by Mr. Anshuman Roy, a social worker with the DC Nicobar over whatsapp and the DC reportedly assured via message that he has now sought for a report from AC Campbell Bay in this regard.
Andaman Sheekha tried to contact the DC Nicobars over phone but his number was not reachable.
Mr. Anshuman Roy told Andaman Sheekha according to him the Administration must call back the ship and conduct proper tests to all crew members as in case of any infection it will spread like wild fire in Nicobar District, which will be a major problem for these Islands. “Why to take risk with tribal population?” he questioned.
Meanwhile, reports are already coming that seven people in Car Nicobar have been tested positive for Corona and a few in Karmota Island also have developed symptoms. Hope the Administration will reach to the bottom of this case and take necessary action.
