Port Blair, Aug 02: Due to cyclonic weather nearly thirty trees got uprooted in several villages of a Baratang Island of Middle Andaman today. According to Zilla Parishad member of Baratang Island and also the up-adhyaksh of North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad, Mr R Alager Swami several trees of Bolcha, Khatta Khadi, Bara Nallah, Oralkatcha, Nilambur etc villages got uprooted, because of which the electricity lines suffered heavy damages and there was a power cut for more than eight hours in Baratang Island.
Later the power supply was anyhow restored for some regions by late evening hours according to Mr. Alager Swami trees fell on a few houses for which people suffered heavy damages.
He said that people of the area had no clue and they got no advance warning of any kind of cyclonic weather because of which the damages were more. He demanded a relief package for those who suffered losses.
Similarly in Togapur, Jaipur, Mayabunder etc areas of Middle Andaman lot of trees got uprooted and some trees fell on houses. Considering the gravity of the situation Mr Mohan Kumar, Assistant Commissioner (Head Quarter), Mayabunder has instructed all the Patwaris to monitor the situation closely and submit a report to the Assistant Commissioner immediately.
Regarding the damages the AC directed The Tahsildar to keep a close eye on the situation and keep the Disaster Management team ready to deal with the situation.
Due to heavy rain and cyclonic weather electrical lines also suffered heavy damages in the Middle Andaman region and some parts of Middle Andaman are still in dark, it is reported.
According to Andaman Sheekha Correspondent, Police team, Fire Brigade team extended their support to clear the fallen trees and bushes throughout the day.
Electricity department is also carrying out line management works in war footing to restore power today. There is no report of any casualty in the region.
Not only Middle Andaman but South Andaman region also witnessed cyclonic weather this morning and because of weather conditions there was a power cut for several hours.
