Betapur, July 19: The dilapidated condition of the ‘India Post’ office in Betapur, North and Middle Andaman is posing a life threat to the staff as well as for the people who come to get their work done.
Residents allege that there is a leakage in the roof of the 30-year old ‘India Post’ office following which during rain the water enters inside.
There are also allegations that important articles and office documents that kept inside are getting damaged by the ‘termites’ which is a huge problem due to the wooden structure of the office.
Thousands of residents of Panchavati to Basantipur are completely dependent on the services of ‘India Post’ office of Betapur and hence, early repair of the office is needed.
Surprisingly, the Pradhan, Uttam Mondal, Harinagar, who has approached the India Post authorities to shift their office to his RCC Rooms attached to the new Panchayat building has not got a reply yet from the authorities.
“The authorities have neither replied to my correspondence yet nor they have initiated a process to renovate the office, hence, if in future any damages to post or crucial document occurs due to this lapse, the authorities must be held responsible,” Mr. Mondol added.
