Port Blair, June 19: Learning about the helpless octogenarian, roaming in Burma Bazaar, Chennai to be a resident of Little Andaman Island of Andaman, a Non-Government Organization of the Islands, Island Protection Forum, and the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, has taken all possible steps to bring the octogenarian back to these Islands.
Since the last several months, 86 years old, Mr. Vishwanatan Nair, was wandering in Burma Bazar, Chennai in an awful condition, as according to the octogenarian, after he came to Chennai for roaming, he lost all his documents.
However, it was the local NGO of Chennai, who met the helpless man, took his identity, and then passed the information to an NGO of Port Blair as a result of which the octogenarian man was brought back in flight on dated 14th June 2020 by IPF.
After the Corona test result of the man came negative, he requested shifting him to Hut Bay following which on dated 17th June 2020, the octogenarian was provided all necessary support to travel till Hut Bay and authorities of Andaman Administration ensured that the octogenarian reached up to the Tsunami shelter allotted to him in Hut Bay.
According to the President, Island Protection Forum, Mr. MT Musthafa, he was successful in helping the octogenarian only after receiving tremendous support from the staffs of Andaman Administration.
Mr. Musthafa has written a letter to the Chief Secretary, Andaman, and Nicobar Administration, to inform him of the support he received from officers of A & N Administration.
President IPF said that the Assistant Director, Shipping Services, Chennai, Mr. Hassan, and his subordinates helped him issue a certificate to the octogenarian, which enabled the octogenarian to travel from Chennai to Port Blair.
Mr. Musthafa further informed the CS that lodging and boarding facilities for the old-man was provided by the administration in the CAT Building, Port Blair, which was highly impressive.
Considering the request of IPF, the Social Welfare Department had also made an alternate arrangement in the old-age-home at Ferrargunj for the old man’s accommodation, without any hurdles.
“I would finally like to inform you that only with the personal care and supervision of Mr. Dipak Virmani, IAS/ Secretary (GA) the assistance to the old man was possible,” Mr. Musthafa added.
