Port Blair, June 17: On 5th of June 2020, Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President & the MP Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma had received a list of 48 stranded Islanders for 3 months in Kolkatta who were without any money to even avail any sort of transportation and since they come from poor families their families too are in no state to send any money as for the last 3 months they have exhausted most of their savings and no one was ready to help.
The Member of Parliament Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma immediately directed Andaman & Nicobar Youth Congress President Mr. John Robert Babu who once aware of the situation and genuineness of the stranded 48 Islanders promptly arranged for their transportation from Durgapur to Khidirpur in Kolkatta.
Through Andaman Youth Congress & IYC Kolkatta Team members coordination it was ensured that all the 48 stranded Islanders are looked after in Kolkatta till they can take the next available ship for Andaman.
Mr. John Robert Babu and Andaman & Nicobar Youth Congress along with support from an NGO and IYC Kolkata team collected all the required amount to book complete 48 Islanders’ ship tickets to Andaman along with meals for their 3 days journey from Kolkatta on 8th of June 2020. IYC Kolkatta also arranged for the snacks, dry fruits to be carried for onwards journey of total 103 passengers onboard of Swaraj Dweep.
“The Youth Congress team of Andaman is extremely proud of their leader Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma under whose guidance Mr. John Robert Babu and his team worked day and night to ensure these 48 stranded Islanders reach home safely all the while ensuring they have their families too updated. Post Arrival and after the mandated Quarantine in Port Blair, Youth Congress Andaman Team arranged for their tickets to their home in different Islands of Andaman & Nicobar,” a release issued by Miss Bindiya Banerjee, State General secretary, Pradesh Youth Congress, A&N Islands said here today.
