Port Blair, June 14: With the recent detection of more COVID19 positive cases in Andaman and Nicobar Islands the UT Administration has called for a greater vigilance amongst the public and for adoption of more precautions to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in these remote Islands.
As per details, the recent COVID-19 positive cases were either recent travelers from the mainland (by Air) of their family members and as per the current health protocol, they were required to self monitor their health.
Now as an additional precautionary measure, it has now been decided that a stamp mentioning ‘Self Observation’ would be marked on the back of the left hand (back of palm) of each travelers, along with date of
arrival.
The local Administration has urged all the passengers arriving by air to cooperate in this endeavour and to strictly abide with all the health protocols and National Directives of COVID-19 management, to keep the Andaman Islands safe.
Meanwhile, the Health Service Department of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have strengthened the testing process for the passengers landing in the Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair after five new positive COVID-19 cases have been detected recently.
Earlier, the Nodal Officer, COVID-19, A & N Islands, Dr. Avijit Roy had told Andaman Sheekha that the Health department is increasing number of testing in Airport many fold.
Till now the Health Department of A & N Islands was conducting COVID19 test on select group of incoming passengers to Port Blair. The select groups were Old people (60+), Children (below 10), Patients, Operated
Patients, People with Co-morbidity and symptomatic passengers.
Altogether Andaman and Nicobar Islands recorded 40 COVID19 cases out of which 33 already tested negative before May 7, 2020 while seven present cases remain presently active.
