Port Blair, June 05: Recently a local NGO of Chennai, working for the welfare of the people in every sector, identified a helpless octogenarian person, roaming in Burma Bazaar, Chennai as a resident of Little Andaman Island of ANI.
Immediately after learning that the person belonged to Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the local NGO of Chennai informed the matter to the ‘Island Protection Forum’ with which they have tie-ups.
“We received the information about the helpless octogenarian person on 31st May 2020 and after receiving the information we enquired about the person at our level and found the information is correct,” Mr. MT Mustafa, President Island Protection Forum said.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Mustafa further said that the name of the person is Mr. Viswanathan Nair and he is 82 years old. The person also has a Tsunami Shelter allotted in his name at Little Andaman but since a year he is missing from Little Andaman.
“As per the information from the local NGO of Chennai, the octogenarian has lost all his belongings that include his ID cards, documents, certificates etc and as of now, with a request to the local NGO of Chennai we have provided the person with clothes food etc,” Mr. Mustafa added.
The NGO Island Protection Forum has written a letter to the Chief Secretary, Andaman, and the Nicobar Islands in this regard and requested him to assist the stray octogenarian person of Andaman at Chennai by directing the DRC Chennai or Assistant Director (Shipping) for providing food and accommodation along with arrangement to deport him to Hut Bay, Little Andaman.
IPF has also requested the CS to direct the Tehsil Office, Little Andaman for issuance of a new Islander/election card to Mr. Vishwanatha Nair so that he can travel back to Andaman and also for all his future needs.
