Billyground, May 21: The Superintendent of Police of North and Middle Andaman has sounded caution against posting and forward unverified information.
In a communication to all HoDs of N & M Andaman and All Medical Officers (i/c) the SP North and Middle Andaman said that it has come to the notice of his office that some people have posted/forwarded unverified content on social media/ WhatsApp groups, which in some cases, created panic and misinformation in the public regarding COVID-19 in N&MA District. This included some government servants also.
“While a legal action is being contemplated in those cases, you are requested to brief and sensitize the staff of your department not to post/forward any unverified information on social media platforms. If any such incident comes to notice and the information is found to be incorrect/fake on verification, that would attract legal action. The staff should also be sensitized that liability for forwarding any such information to individuals/groups would be same as posting it,” the circular added.
