Port Blair, May 11: The former General Secretary of ANTCC, Mr. G Bhasker has demanding opening of fishing sectors in Andaman. In a letter addressed to the Director of Fisheries department, Mr. Bhasker said that fishing Community is the most down trodden community of these islands and need your kind support and immediate attention.
“You are also well aware that most of them are uneducated and you will understand that they are not aware of social distancing and also not aware of the latest rules of wearing mask & hand sanitizing, etc. Instead of totally stopping their livelihood because of them not following the norms laid down for COVID – 19, you should have ensured that they are educated and made them to follow the latest norms for COVID – 19. Your decision to totally shut down the fishing operations, after allowing it for few days was incorrect and your action has caused inhuman hardships and loss of revenue to the whole fishing community,” he said.
He questioned that when social distancing can be ensured at ANIIDCO wine shop by the Police, the Police could have helped social distancing at the fish landing centers also.
