Port Blair, May 08: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands has taken up the matter with the Lt. Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands informing that due to loss of earning during the period of lockdown, it would be very difficult for the domestic electric consumers to pay the electricity charges for 3 months from March 2020 to May, 2020 at a time.
He also further said that the private Commercial and Industrial establishments in these Islands were closed during the entire month of April 2020 as being the part of nationwide lockdown, hence it would be an additional financial burden on these establishments to pay the electricity charges for the lockdown period as no business/commercial activities are carried out.
Therefore, he requested the Lt. Governor to consider to allow the Domestic, Commercial and Industrial consumers to pay electricity charges in 5 (five) equal monthly installments for 3 (three months) of March, April and May, 2020 instead of onetime payment for the entire three months and also waiving off fixed minimum electricity charges for the Commercial and Industrial establishments for the month of April 2020 in view of complete lockdown for COVID-19 pandemic.
