Port Blair, Apr 24: Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, BJP, A & N Islands had on 26/04/2020 has taken up the issue of granting appropriate relief to all needy people of A & N Islands with the Mr. Narendra Modi the Prime Minister, Mr. Jagat Prakash Nadda the National President Bharatiya Janata Party, Mr. Amit Shah the Union Minister of Home Affairs, Mrs. Nirmala Sitaraman, the Union Finance Minister, Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan, the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Mr. G. Kishen Reddy the Minister of State for Home Affairs.
He has asserted in his written communication that due to the unprecedented complete lockdown situation, all the basic employment generating private sectors and Industries have come to a standstill totally demolishing the earning source.
The people belonging to poor, upper middle and middle class are going to have its severe adverse effects. He has further stated that all sections of our society have suffered badly, starting from Agricultural sector, low income groups, Daily wage earners, Middle Class groups, Small businessmen, Business entities and Industrialist, etc have also suffered.
He has further emphasized in his letter that our Islands stand on a different footing considering the facts that we have got no big companies or corporate business entities providing large scale of employment. Geographically our Island is located remotely and the Islanders are totally dependent upon mainland India to fulfill our basic essential requirements. Apart from some food grains, vegetables, areca-nut and coconut nothing much could be grown considering the nature of soil which was further spoiled during this period as the poor farmers couldn’t irrigate due to Lockdown/Pandemic.
He has therefore requested to provide relief to the people belonging to all sections of societies residing in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in accordance with their respective earning capacity by ascertaining probable loss & damage which they have sustained/suffered due to the prevailing pandemic of COVID-19.
