Port Blair, April 14: A major fire call was reported yesterday morning at around 09:30 am from the Electricity Power House, Phoenix Bay following which the firefighters from Marine and Aberdeen Fire Unit without any delay immediately reached the spot and averted the fire after a struggle of 45 minutes.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Unfortunately, as the fire spread to a godown filled with batteries nearby, items worth rupees 22-23 lakhs were destroyed in the accident.
As per reports, due to excessive heat, a generator set blasted, which resulted in the fire. As it was an oil fire the firefighters used special extinguishers to take control of the fire. However, the fire was controlled in 45 minutes, it took 01:15 minutes more to make the place safe for the workers.
