The only solution feasible in these hard times seemed to be a nation-wide lockdown and, its biggest repercussion is the economic instability affecting major and small scale industries and work sectors, indirectly affecting section of humans, whose lives have come to a standstill due to the mandatory lockdown.
Before a cure is found for this virus the most affected and agonized sects shall be of daily wage earners, street vendors, laborers and many others, who live upon each day earning to feed their families. Life of such affected sects has made them helpless, “No Money -No Food” and they have nowhere to go amidst this lockdown, struggle for them is getting harder as the days are going by.
At this time of global calamity, there are some humans who have risen to the occasion and united to ensure that every human in need at Port Blair shall have at least a meal every day. With a noble agenda to provide nutrient rich meal to poor and needy at Port Blair, humans from various walks of life viz Defence Personnel, Sikh community, Businessmen, Builders and many others associated with government organizations have come forward with brave and open heart in unity to run the mission “Port Blair Rasoi”.
The mission has already been much-admired with passionate gestures of the humans contributing and helping serve meals being prepared at Gurudwara Singh Sabha, Minnie Bay. It requires no mention, that meals are being cooked and distributed by unfailingly conforming in vogue government regulations and maintaining social distancing norms.
On 31 Mar 20, the initiative was conceptualized, Administrative clearances were sought from A&N administration and with their prompt cooperation the Rasoi commenced on 01 Apr 20 with “Khichadi” as the first meal cooked and distributed to approximately 100 people. Since then, the mission has gained a greater than expected momentum, but the starving lives continue to grow every day with the figure touching about 10,000 who are in need of at least a meal in a day. This momentum has not only motivated “Port Blair Rasoi” to increase its productivity four times catering for 400 people per day, but to keep growing until the capacity to produce helps all in need of our help in near future.
As a part of public-spirited initiative and collective efforts this mission has so far served almost as many as meals till date, and they are determined to work, serve and get going the necessity remains.
Nonetheless sustenance of such missions also rely on the contribution and generosity expressed by those who are able and ready to sacrifice in some forms. It is indeed an opportunity for everyone to think beyond personal wealth and being and come forward towards the noble cause. This is a time to show solidarity towards fight against corona virus.
