Port Blair, Feb 02: The members of the Andaman & Nicobar Media Federation (ANMF) on last Friday bid farewell to the Joint Director (M&C), PIB, Port Blair, Mr. Nilesh Kumar Kalbhor, IIS who is on his promotional transfer after having served a successful tenure of two and a half years in the islands.
After having taken up the reigns of the Press Information Bureau, a department of Central Government which remained dormant for years, Mr.Nilesh had left no stone unturned to bridge the gap between the media and the Government. An Indian Information Service Officer by qualification, Nilesh had shown high level of professionalism and could manage to earn a good reputation among the media fraternity in the islands.
Since the time, Mr. Nilesh joined as the Joint Director, he ensured that any and all information pertaining to the Government, which is meant for public information reached on time to the media.
Addressing the gathering of scribes at the Conference Hall of Hotel Shompen, Port Blair today morning, Mr. K Ganeshan, President, ANMF expressed his gratitude for the yeoman service rendered by Mr. Nilesh. He also placed forward the challenges being faced by the local media in terms of fund constraints and requested the Joint Director to take up the grievances before the appropriate authorities at New Delhi.
Mr. Sanjib Kumar Roy, General Secretary, ANMF had words of appreciation for the Joint Director and remembered his contribution to the media fraternity. He also suggested that the Joint Director should continue to stay in touch with the local media out here and guide them about the latest happenings in the Government concerning the media.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nilesh dwelt upon his mixed experiences in the islands with the A&N Administration and the media fraternity. He advised the scribes to be faithful to their profession and refrain from wrong methods of journalism in order to serve the society better.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. S.P. Ellango, Secretary, ANMF.
Earlier, Mr. Mohammed Rafi and Mr.Mahesh Kumar presented shawls and bouquets to the Joint Director. A memento was also presented by the President, K Ganeshan as a token of remembrance to the outgoing Joint Director.
