Port Blair, Jan 23: People living in Car Nicobar Islands are going through difficult time as vegetables and other essential items are vanishing very fast from local market. According to public since last nearly two weeks no vessel of DSS has reached Car Nicobar and hence no stock of onion, potatoes from Port Blair and Vegetables from Little Andaman has reached the Island.
As per reports, the ship that sailed last to Car Nicobar was on 11th January, 2020, since then none of the ship has sailed to Car Nicobar.
“I have to attend my brother’s marriage on dated 30th January, 2020 at Port Blair and until now the DSS has not released the schedule for the coming week. How can Administration expect government servant to deliver best service if the Administration can’t provide basic connectivity,” said a government servant on the condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, public are demanding that the Administration take some steps to repair and put services of MV Nicobar and MV Nancowry for Nicobar Group of Islands instead of making any move to scrap these big vessels, so that atleast in near future there is no shortage of ship for Nicobar Group of Islands.
Andaman Sheekha tried to contact top officers of DSS in this regard but they were unreachable for a comment.
