Port Blair, Jan 10: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament was approached by the parents and many selected players for 65th SGFI Squay Martial Art Championship from different Government Schools who were directed by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to proceed to mainland by availing ship/train and requested the Member of Parliament to take up their case to appropriate authority for sending them to the venue viz Jammu and Kashmir by flights.
Accordingly the Member of Parliament has requested the Director of Sports, Andaman and Nicobar Administration to consider sending the above selected students by flights instead of ship /train journeys for their participation in the National Level 65th SGGI Sqay Martial Arts Championship tentatively to be held at Jammu and Kashmir on 28th Jan.2020. He has stated that out of total 17 participants students (11 students under 14 years –and 06 students Under 17 years) who were selected for the championship competition, a few of them have to appear in board examinations scheduled to be held during the month of February, 2020 and in order to secure good percentage of marks, they have to prepare for annual examination without wasting their time for undertaking long journeys.
The Member of Parliament also stated that due to shortage of time for preparation of annual examination, if they have to go by ship/train for their participation, it would take more than 7-8 days journey for one way and thus total journey period for both ways would be around 15 days. The Member of Parliament has also stated that in view of cold/winter season, these students may face tremendous problems by undertaking long journeys which may ultimately affect their appearing in the examinations in the event of any health problems and hence, requested the Director of Sports for sending these 17 students sports persons by flight from Port Blair to Delhi and Delhi to Jammu Kashmir instead of sea/train journey as a special case and also for student’s safety measures. He has stated that this will not only boost and encourage our Islands players but also create inspiration amongst the other players for development of sports and games in these Islands.
