Port Blair, Jan 07: Ten Central Trade Unions including Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees & workers, New Delhi have called for a nationwide strike tomorrow to press their demands submitted to Govt. of India. In support of this all India strike, the CITU and Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, A & N Islands will be organising various agitational programmes all over the islands on 8th January, 2020. At Port Blair, a day-long Mass Dharna will be organised at Tiranga Park from 9.30 a.m. onwards.
Employees and workers from various unions affiliated to CITU will be participating in the programme. Mass Dharna will be followed by a procession at 4 p.m. and Public Meeting from 4.30 p.m. onwards where various leaders will address the gathering. The Charter of demands includes (i) scrapping of New contributory pension scheme (ii) minimum wages of Rs 21000 per month (iii) generation of new jobs and filling up of 7 lakh vacant posts under various ministries and departments of Gov. Of India (iv) ensuring equal pay for equal work (v) control price rise (vi)stop closure, outsourcing and privatisation of Govt. Departments (vii) Stop labour law amendments as proposed by GOI (viii) Regularise all GDS ,Casual and contract employees and workers, etc .
