Port Blair, Jan 07: Nicobar Police, in its continuous efforts to improve community policing and police-public relation held community meetings with the tribals of villages of Car Nicobar i.e – Arong, Perka and Tamaloo. The local tribals were briefed about the various events e.g Half Marathon, Cycling Championship, Volley Ball Tournament and Nicobar Idol are being organized by the Nicobar Police during its Police Raising Week i.e. from 16th to 22nd January, 2020 under the “YUVA” initiative of A&N Police. The Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District Sh. Rajeev Kumar, IPS also briefed the tribals about the importance of traffic rules in their daily life and told them to wear helmet while driving two wheelers, not to mix drinking and driving. They were also told about the “License Mela” in collaboration with RTO, Car Nicobar being organized by the Nicobar Police on 24th January 2020, where eligible candidates can submit their forms for learning driving licenses.
Moreover, Nicobar District also launched an awareness campaign “Life is Precious” to prevent suicidal tendencies in locals and how to cope up the depression. The local tribals were also brifed about ill effects of consumption of liquor, tobacco, pan masala, smoking and drugs. These awareness programmes were appreciated and responded well by the tribals. All awareness programmes were carried out by Sh. Rajeev Kumar, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Nicobar along with Sh. Prashant Choudhary, DANIPS, SDPO/ Car Nicobar and Insp. P.K. Abdul Arif, SHO PS Car Nicobar.
