Port Blair, Dec 29: Andaman & Nicobar Police in collaboration with Andaman & Nicobar Chess Association organized a Chess Tournament under YUVA initiative of Andaman & Nicobar Police. YUVA is aimed at channelizing the energies of youth on constructive activities and bringing delinquent youth in right direction.
The tournament was held on 29th December 2019 at JNRM Auditorium, Port Blair with a participation of 140 candidates including 12 school dropouts. It was held in various categories i.e under-7, under-9, under-11, under-14, under-18 and open-for-all based on Swiss System of 7 rounds.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Shri. Manoj C., IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District, Shri. Bhaskaran, President, A&N Chess Association, Shri. Dinesh, Secretary, A&N Chess Association and others. The tournament was announced open by the Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
The closing ceremony was attended by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Shri. Vijay Singh, IPS who gave away the trophies to winners of various categories i.e under-7 (Boys-Lohit Akash & Tarun, Girl-Varanya), under-9 (Boys-Mithun Vettayar & S.P.N. Darshan, Girl-Kavyaraj), under-11 (M.A Dhinakar & V. Yashwant, Girls- R Shruti & B Kavya), under-14 (Yuvan Singh, M. Venkatesh, P. Manvender Rao), under-18 (D Shubham Rao, D. Dhruva Kumar, Harsh Mourya), and open-for-all (R. Kasthuri Bhai, M. Sanjay Kumar, Shailender Singh, Ramchender Raha, S.M. Dhan Raju) as secured positioned first, second, third, fourth & fifth respectively and encouraged youth to engage more and more in sports and games. Shri. Vijay Singh, IPS is himself a sports person and a fitness expert. Apart from this, two Andamanese namely Bulbu & Olek identified as Talent Identification during the function.
The overall tournament was successfully organized by Smti. Sandhya Swamy, IPS, SDPO South Andaman, Shri. Narra Chaitanya, IPS, SDPO Bambooflat alongwith YUVA Coordination team in collaboration with A&N Chess Association. Certificates were also given to all the participants. The school dropouts and talented children will be further trained under the aegis of YUVA.
