Port Blair, Dec 02: In order to refresh safety skill among the departmental IV Crew members of Directorate of Shipping Services, a Briefing Session on the topic “safety, collision and grounding” was conducted on 29th November, 2019 at Jetty Office, DSS. The above session which was took part by large number of crew and officers of the Directorate, was earlier inaugurated by the Director Shipping Services who also delivered a short lecture on importance of safety to be taken on board vessel.
The programme was also focused on the role of Departmental Emergency Response Team in case of any exigency on board, and the Officer in-charge, Disaster Management of the Directorate, Shri Mahinder Singh explained the procedure to be adopted during emergency. In addition to the above, the Technical Superintendent of the department Shri Aqeeb Azeem and Shri Kamraju, IV Surveyor explained the different aspects of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Inland Vessel Rule 2016 and the tackling procedure to be followed during collision and grounding of vessels, respectively. The above session was culminated with a demonstration explaining the use of LSA (Life Saving Appliances) and FFA (Fire Fight Appliances) available on board IV Vessels. The Directorate of Shipping Services towards maintaining safety on board will continue to conduct similar sessions for the benefit of staff working on board DSS vessels. The Directorate of Shipping Services in addition to above, is also carrying out periodic demonstrations to passengers about the safety equipments placed on board and its utilization, a communication by the Shri R Veeriah, Deputy Director (SS).
