Port Blair, Nov 27: Continuing its endeavor for better policing, the Andaman and Nicobar Police Study Circle organized its tenth session on the topic “Financial Crime and Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002” at Conference hall, Police Head Quarter. Shri Dependra Pathak, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Islands was the chief guest on the occasion. Shri. Sanjay Kumar, IPS, IGP(HQ/ACU), Shri. Vijay Singh, IPS, DIGP(HQ/Intl), other senior officers of Andaman & Nicobar Police and media were present during the occasion.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion Chief Guest Shri Dependra Pathak, IPS, Director General of Police informed about present day of cyber world which need to be understood and emphasized to work diligently on issues related to Economic Offences and the cases related to money laundering. He encouraged all the police officers to develop understanding of Economic & Financial Crimes as these types crimes require inter agency coordination and have inter-state and sometimes international ramifications.
The speaker on the occasion, Dr. Rajiv Sharma, DANIPS, Additional Superintendent of Police, Police Head Quarter, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the procedure of investigation/enquiry, power of investigation officers and punishments under Prevention of Money Laundering Act(PMLA), 2002, Terror Financing, Foreign Exchange Regulation, Foreign Exchange Management Act and other money laundering acts and regulations being followed by the Enforcement Directorate. He also shared his experience of investigating such Financial Crimes which was followed by a question and answer session.
The discussion concluded with felicitation of the police personnel namely HC Sant Galstus and PC Ashok Kr. Roy for their sincere devotion towards duty and in recognition of their good work for past one year. Also two public persons namely Shri. Sunil Pradhan, R/o Burmanallah and Shri. C. Mohd. Arif R/o Ograbraj were felicitated by the DGP, A&N Islands for being good Samaritans and assisting police on various occasions.
