Port Blair, Nov 24: The Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) Port Blair of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and World health Organisation (WHO) jointly organised the valedictory function of the “Training Workshop on Leptospirosis” at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Auditorium of RMRC today. Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sharma lauded the contribution of RMRC Port Blair in the field of Leptospirosis and in carrying out various health studies on aboriginal tribes like Jarawas, Nicobarese etc of the islands and working on the improvement of their health environment. Shri Sharma also presented certificates to the participants of the workshop. Many experts from different countries of the world like Brazil, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India etc participated in the workshop.
Earlier, welcoming the guests and participants to the function, Director RMRC Dr. P Vijayachari informed that RMRC, Port Blair in the islands has been made one of the referral centres by WHO in the field of Leptospirosis; Australia and Brazil being the others. Many distinguished Doctors, Scientists and Head of Offices of Government of India and Andaman and Nicobar Administration were also present on the occasion. The workshop to impart training in “laboratory diagnosis techniques for leptospirosis and characterization of leptopsiral isolates” was inaugurated on 19th of November 2019.
