Port Blair, Nov 01: No teacher to teach Hindi and History subjects to the students of class XI and XII even after half session today compelled the students of Port-Mout School to stage protest in front of the school premises, this morning.
“Already half session has been passed but the school authorities had failed to teach us anything in Hindi and History subjects, how would we appear for the aforesaid subjects in the board exams?” a student of class XII questioned.
The students were in the hope till now that school authorities have the cognizance about this and were doing something to fulfill the need but when they felt like nothing the authorities are doing to fulfill the requirement, they took this step.
It is learnt that the protest remained on for 02 hours and was called off at 09:30am when the Director of Education came to the spot and assured the students to send teachers of the subjects to the school by Monday or Tuesday the coming week.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr Subir Chander, Adhayaksh, SAZP, said that the entire problem is due to the shortage of teachers.
He further said that there is a shortage of around 38-40 principals and the Education department runs the show by giving the responsibility of a Principal to a senior teacher or Vice- Principal. “I don’t know why the Education Department is not filling the vacant posts on time?” Mr Subir Chander questioned.
Mr Subir Chander lastly requested the Education Department to provide sufficient teachers in all schools by recruitment required number of teachers.
