Port Blair, Sept 27: The UT Commission on Protection of Child Rights in collaboration with the Department of Home Science, JNRM and Tushnabad Gram Panchayat organised a awareness programme on the importance of Nutrition to the Rural Women under POSHAN Maah Celebration on 27th September 2019 at 10:00 AM in the Grampanchayat meeting Hall. Smt.Sampa Banerji, Member, UTCPCR inaugurated programme by lighting the lamp and highlighted the need and importance of nutritious foods in day today life.
The responsibility is lies with every mother to make the entire Andaman as Malnutrition free, she added.
While speaking on the occasion Dr.K.Venkatesan, Assistant Professor & HoD, Department of Home Science, JNRM informed the women on the significance of nutrition and POSHAN Maah Celebration by informing the ill effects of Protein Energy Malnutrition and Anaemia. The adolescent girls in the villages should be a torch bearer to create awareness of taking balanced diet by joining hands with Angwanwadi Workers and SHG Members, he added.
Ms.Mary Jasinta, Pradhan said the Children’s are the most vulnerable group of being affected by malnutrition. We should all join together to remove the nutrition and health related problems. Shri.Anand Amritraj, Ex Up-Adhyaksh thanked the UTCPCR and the JNRM Home Science Department for coming all the way to Tushnabad to create awareness to the rural women.
He exhorted the participants to take the message to home and educate the neighbours. Smt.Ratan Kumari, Samiti Member and all PRI members were present on the occasion. Altogether around 100 women members and Anganwadi Workers took part in the programme.
