Port Blair, Sept 08: The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Chetan B. Sanghi, along with the Member of Parliament, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma and Principal Secretary (Health), Mr. K. R. Meena visited Mayabunder yesterday. The Chief Secretary inaugurated the Ice Plant of Fisheries Department at Danapur while the Member of Parliament inaugurated the AYUSH Wing of Dr. R. P. Hospital and interacted with the patients and the staff members therein. In their respective addresses, the chief guests appreciated the efforts of the concerned departments for fulfilling the long pending demands of the general public of Mayabunder.
Later, a public meeting was convened in APWD Guest House, Mayabunder wherein the Chief Secretary interacted with PRI members, Heads of Offices, and general public and heard their grievances which were mainly related to pending developmental works, predominantly in road & water sectors, availability of quarry products, frequent disruption in power supply, replacement of old STS buses, shortage of Doctors and staff in hospitals of N&M Andaman District, etc. The Chief Secretary discussed about the issues raised in the meeting and assured of taking them up with the concerned Secretaries to redress them in a time bound manner. He further informed that Secretaries of three Departments viz. Rural Development, APWD and Shipping shall be visiting the district soon in this respect.
The Member of Parliament requested the Chief Secretary to facilitate the all round development of N&M Andaman District in a planned and holistic way.
The Principal Secretary (Health) informed the gathering about the recruitment drive being undertaken by the Health Department to fill all the vacant posts of Specialist doctors, GDMOs and Para-medical staff, and the procurement of necessary equipments in the existing hospitals of A&N Islands.
The Chief Secretary later visited Mayabunder Jetty to discuss the possibilities of extension of the Jetty, its repair and construction of separate container yard and gave necessary direction to all the concerned departments to examine the issue at the earliest.
The Adhyaksh, ZPN&M Andaman, Mr. P. Srinivas Rao and the Deputy Commissioner, N&M Andaman, Mr. Awanish Kumar expressed gratitude on behalf of all the PRI members, Heads of Offices and general public to the visiting officials.
