Port Blair,August 30: Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR)-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Central Island Agriculture Research Institute(CIARI), Port Blair will organise a Grand Jal Shakti Abhiyan Mela at Ograbraj Community Hall, Ferrargunj Block on 3rd of September 2019. Member of Parliament, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma will be the Chief Guest on the occasion. Farmers, school children and other stake holders will participate in the Mela.
Union Jal Shakti Minister, Mr Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, had announced the commencement of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan – a campaign for water conservation and water security on 1st July, 2019. The campaign is being carried out through citizen participation during the monsoon season, from 1st July, 2019 to 15th September, 2019. An additional Phase 2 will run from 1st October, 2019 to 30th November, 2019 for States receiving the North East retreating monsoons. The focus of the campaign is on water stressed districts and blocks.
Earlier, the Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, in one of his Mann Ki Baat had given a clarion call to citizens to join hands for water conservation and create a Jan-Andolan along the lines of the Swachh Bharat Mission, to save water and secure the future. The Prime Minister invited ideas, traditional knowledge, initiatives undertaken, success stories, and films made on water conservation from common citizens, celebrities and NGOs alike.
The Grand Jal Shakti Abhiyan Mela will be organised in association with Doordarshan Kendra, Port Blair, All India Radio, Port Blair, Departments of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Fisheries of Andaman and Nicobar Administartion, ICAR_CIARI, Block Development Officers (BDOs) and Gram Panchayats.
