
Port Blair, Aug 30: In a swift response Indian Coast Guard Station Kamorta coordinated safe evacuation of 50 passengers from ferry boat MV Galathea, which ran aground after cast off from Kamorta jetty due to engine failure and high wind at 1515 hrs on 30 Aug 19.
On receipt of information, ICG launched a quick operation and saved precious 50 lives including 30 ladies and 16 children in the inclement weather. The operation was undertaken despite strong winds blowing across and high waves. ICGS Kamorta coordinated the evacuation by utilising various surface assets including Gemini of Coast Guard Ship C 422, two local fishing boats and PMF boat. All passengers on successful evacuation were provided primary medical attention.
