Port Blair, August 20: Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) was launched with an intention to provide basic services (e.g. water supply, sewerage, urban transport) to households and build amenities in cities, so as to improve the quality of life , especially for the downtrodden and disadvantaged section.
The Port Blair Municipal council took-up the above Mission to ensure that every household is provided with a water tap connection with assured water supply. Besides, construction of Storm Water Drainage to reduce flooding and providing open-air gymnasium has also been taken –up under the above scheme.
A total of 10.82 Cr comprising of 79 projects have been sanctioned. Out of the total 79 projects, 49 projects worth Rs. 2.77 cr. have been completed, 26 projects amounting to Rs. 7.29 cr. underwater supply, stormwater drainage and 5 lacs Ltr storage capacity augmentation works have been under various stages of execution.
In addition to the above, the 100% target for providing tap connections to urban households has been achieved. In order to keep citizen healthier, the Port Blair Municipal Council has also constructed four (04) open-air gymnasium under the above mission in various wards.
