Port Blair, July 31: Civil Supplies Department under A & N administration has been continuously striving for ensuring better service delivery to the citizens of this UT. In this direction an important initiative has been taken by the Department for the benefit of all the beneficiaries of Public Distribution System (PDS) through Fair Price Shops (FPS). Under this initiative, the beneficiaries can purchase the PDS items from any of the Fair Price Shops situated in their concerned District as per their convenience w.e.f 01/08/2019. There will not be any restriction on the beneficiary to purchase the PDS items from particular FPS. This intra-district portability will be implemented in two districts of the UT in the 1st instance i.e South Andaman and North & Middle Andaman. Such a landmark decision on portability will not only provide a better and efficient service to the citizens but at the same time encourage a fair and healthy competition amongst the FPS licensees towards creation of a better service mechanism.
