Maybunder, July 21: This monsoon reports of several protests are coming from various parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which is enough to show that all is not well with the Administration.
The latest report is coming from Mayabunder area, where a large number of people gathered at Mayabunder Bazaar, under leadership of former Pramukh of Mayabunder, Mr Abdul Siddique at around 5.00 PM yesterday and protested against indiscriminate and unscheduled power cuts in the region. Later the crowd was informed by some senior officers of Electricity Department that there is a major fault in line from Betapur to Basantipur and AE, Mayabunder and AE Rangat with all workers are trying to locate the fault.
Not happy with the reply people protested more prominently and some vehicles of ATR were also reportedly stopped by the crowd.
It is learnt that the DC of North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Awanish Kumar also reached the spot and assured the public that all steps are being taken to address the situation. After intervention of DC, N & M Andaman, at around 9.00 PM the public was informed by Electricity Department that the fault has been located and restoration works are being carried out in war-footing. The protest was finally withdrawn after restoration of power.
Meanwhile, the former Pramukh of Mayabunder, Mr Abdul Siddique has expressed his gratitude towards public of Mayabunder for coming out in such a large number to stage protest. He also thanked the Deputy Commissioner of N & M Andaman for reaching at the protest side and for doing all needful.
