Swaraj Dweep, July 15: Dozens and dozens of boat operators and tourism stake holders staged massive protest at Swaraj Dweep yesterday and today against closure of Elephanta beach.
According to details the Elepahanta Beach of Swaraj Dweep was closed by authorities since 26 June 2019 without giving any proper reason, for which boat operators and others, connected to the tourism activities, were suffering heavy loss.
Dozens of youths, villagers and PRI members today staged protest holding placards demanding opening of Elephanta Beach and saving Tourism Industry. As per Mr. Prashanta Guchhait, President, Havelock Tourist Boat Operator Association, Swaraj Dweep they were told that the reason behind closure of Elephant beach was south west monsoon.
Later in the afternoon forest officials had a meeting with the protesting youths and after assurances that during adverse weather some other area will be opened for tourists, the people withdrew protest.
