Billyground, July 14: The Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Awanish Kumar has NHIDCL to take action against the contractor for the lapses, which resulted in collapse of Thoratang Bailey Bridge for the second time.
When asked about the reasons, the Deputy Commissioner informed Andaman Sheekha that the main reason behind this collapse was use of old materials to re-launch the bridge.
According to him detailed report will be submitted to him very soon.
He said that engineers and officials of NHIDCL inspected the bridge after the incident and it has been decided that a new bailey bridge will be immediately built and procurement of materials for the same has also been started.
He said that the NHIDCL has also agreed to strengthen the existing bailey bridge at TV Kulam to increase its load bearing capacity so that heavy vehicle may pass over and people don’t have to get down.
