Port Blair, July 01: Today at 0800 AM, PRI members of Gram Panchayat Tushnabad and parents of school students assembled in front of Govt. Senior Secondary School Tushnabad under the leadership of Smt. Merry Jasintha, Pradhan (Independent) Gram Panchayat Tushnabad to protest against non -completion of renovation work on the school building of Govt. Senior Secondary School Tushnabad during vacation.
At about 0935 hrs, they blocked the main road as no representatives of APWD were present at the site. Later about 1000 hrs, Assistant Engineer (APWD), Ferrargunj and Deputy Education Officer, Wimberlygunj reached at spot and met with protesters.
They alongwith Contractor inspected the pending work and assured them the pending renovation woks will be completed with 15 days. They also formed a screening committee headed by Smti Amina, chairman of school management committee, to monitor the progress in construction work.
After the assurance, they dispersed from the spot. Around 40 parents & villagers participated in the protest.
Mr. Anand Amrit Raj, ex-Zilla Parishad member Tushnabad and Mr. Mohd Safieque Pradhan, Mithakhari were present during the protest.
