Port Blair, June 28: Both the vehicle ferry vessels, MV Kadamtala and MV Lapathy, operating in Middle Strait today suffered breakdown, giving horrible time to the commuters.
As per report MV Lapathy already had some technical problems but today at around 9.30 AM, another vehicle ferry MV Kadamtala also suffered breakdown. However, by 10.30 AM the vehicle ferry MV Kadamtala was again made operational but till then there was huge backlog.
Meanwhile MVF Austin-IV was sent from Kadamtala to Middle Strait for help, which was a good relief for ATR commuters but at around 3.00 PM again MV Kadamtala once again suffered breakdown. As per report MV Kadamtala had some problems with oil filter.
Because of the breakdown again ATR traffic was disrupted and pressure fell on MVF Austin IV.
The Baratang Police unit had to make special arrangements to make sure minimum inconvenience is caused to ATR commuters.
Meanwhile one mechanic of Shipping Department from Kadamtala and one from Port Blair managed to repair both MV Kadamatala and MV Lapathy by 9.00 PM. The police team also helped 11 big vehicles, which were stranded, to cross the middle strait till 9.30 PM.
Sources said that due to best efforts put by staffs of PS Baratang and Staffs of Shipping Department, the situation was managed professionally today even after breakdown of both vehicle ferry vehicles.
It is learnt that tomorrow both vehicle ferry vessels, MV Kadamtala and MV Lapathy might come back into service, which will be a great relief for ATR commuters.
STOP PRESS: MV Lapathy, again suffered breakdown at 9.50 pm tonight. There was problem in fuel injector.
It is purely Poor management and maintenance of vessels. How long north &middle andaman people will suffer like this ( bad road / ferry boat disruptions)?
Wake up Administration wake up
I request andaman sheekha to highlight it in big way
