Port Blair, June 27: The Animal Science Division, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair along with ICAR-KVK, Nicobar and ICAR-KVK, Port Blair jointly organized a 10 days training programme from 18-27 June, 2019 under STC on “Scientific pig farming to double the farmers’ income” concluded today at ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair. A total of 10 Nicobari rural youths were trained through lectures, practical session and exposure visits. The programme was inaugurated on 18-06-2019. The valedictory function was attended by scientists, project staff and officers of the institute and KVKs.
The Chief guest of the programme, Dr. A. Kundu, Director ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair during the valedictory address emphasised on entrepreneurship development among the tribal youths. He appreciated the overall design of the course and conduction of the knowledge and skills in trainees about pig farming. The HOD of Animal Science Division, Dr. D. Bhattacharya briefed about the activities and development of his division and committed his support and cooperation in entrepreneurship development among the tribal youths through scientific intervention in livestock farming. Dr. L.B. Singh, Head I/c, ICAR-KVK, Port Blair explained about different schemes of Govt. of India in nutshell with respect to agriculture and allied sectors. Dr. P.A. Bala and Dr. Zachariah George the Course Co-ordinators briefed about the activities undertaken in the course of training. At the outset, Dr. Jai Sunder welcomed the gathering. The certificates were distributed to the trainees by the Chief guest and training manuals were released.
