Port Blair, Jun 20: Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Port Blair has inaugurated Integrated Pest Management Training & Demonstration Programme under Farmers’ Field School in Vegetables/Maize at Gupatapara Gram Panchayat Hall on 19th June 2019 in order to create awareness about the IPM practices, ill effects of Pesticides and new invasive pest like Fall Army Worm.
Addressing the inaugural function Scientific Assistant Mr. Dibyendu Das, discussed brief history of Green Revolution in India and how fertilizer & pesticides became an integral part of Indian farming system. He discussed about the need of Integrated Pest Management practices to overcome the pesticide poisoning problem and be a bridge for gradual shifting to Organic practice. He also discussed various components of IPM i.e. cultural, mechanical, biological & need based chemical application and urged to the farmers to adopt IPM technology and go for need based use of chemical pesticides and other bio-control measures to reduce the pesticide load from the environment. He also discussed the new pest Fall Army Worm outbreak in A&N Islands & the magnitude of its damage history in the world.
Smt. Appalanarashima, Gram Pradhan, Guptapara Gram Panchayat was present as Chief Guest and she welcomed CIPMC, Port Blair for conducting such eco-friendly programme in the area and urged the farmers to minimize indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides and maximize the production as well as minimize environment pollution.
Mr. N.N. Nag, Ex-Zilaparisad Member was present as Guest of Honour and thanks CIPMC, Port Blair for conducting such eco-friendly programme in the area and urged the farmers to take full advantage of this programme.
Mr. Sreedam Biswas, JAA, Manglutan, State Agri. Dept. and Smt. Sonamati Halder, PRI member were present during the inaugural progrramme. All farmers of the area were presented during the programme. Mr. D. Das, SA proposed the vote of thanks.
