Port Blair, June 19: Mr. R. Alager Swamy, the Zilla Parishad Member of Baratang today called on the Chief Secretary of A&N Islands, Mr. Chetan B. Sanghi and raised local burning issues of Baratang.
Mr. Anand Bengra, PSM Nilambur, Mr. Roy George, Pradahan, Nilambur Panchayat, Mr. T Satish Kumar, Up-Pradhan and Mr. Ramnathan ex- PRI also accompanied Mr. Alager Swamy.
Among other issues raised by Mr. R. Alager Swamy, the prominent issue was the pathetic condition of ATR stretch, which comes under Baratang Zone i.e. from Nimbudera Jetty to Gandhi Ghat Jetty.
Mr. Swamy pointed out that the ATR stretch in Baratang is in so bad shape that vehicles are suffering frequent breakdown and road users are having a horrible time.
Talking immediate action the Chief Secretary called the NHIDCL officials, concerned contractor and APWD officials in CS chamber and questioned NHIDCL regarding poor condition of ATR in Baratang region.
During the meeting the contractor of NHIDCL reportedly promised to repair the 23 km road Nimbudera Jetty to Gandhi Ghat Jetty within 20 days. The CS also reportedly directed one senior officer of APWD to visit Baratang for inspection.
Regarding ferry between Port Blair and Baratang, which was withdrawn nearly two months back, the CS reportedly told Baratang delegation that ferry service between Port Blair and Baratang will resume soon. He said that new vessels are coming after which one vessel will be sent for Baratang.
According to Mr. Alager Swamy the Chief Secretary also assured the delegation that the Baratang area will be provided a Mortuary Van very soon, after the matter was raised by the delegation.
