Port Blair, Jun 18: Zilla Parishad Member, Baratang Mr. R.Alagar Swamy along with Mr. Anand Bengra Samity Member Nilambur, GP and Mr. Roy George, Pradhan, Nilambur, GP has requested Chief Secretary to take immediate action for repairs and maintenance of NH road from Baratang jetty to Gandhighat jetty and to direct the concerned authorities of NHIDCL and his agent to take immediate steps for repairing and maintenance of these stretch within 07 days for safety and security of the road users and to avoid accidents.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of A&N Administration they jointly stated that the NH stretch from Baratang jetty to Gandhighat jetty is in deplorable and worst condition. The present condition of the road is very pathetic, degrading day by day and the entire road is riddled with pot holes creating inconvenience to the road uses. The rain in the recent past has turned the road virtually into death trap and it’s extremely dangerous.
They further added that due to non maintenance of these ATR road many road users, medical patients, school children, old age persons, tourist are facing tremendous problems.
“We met with the concerned agencies and requested to maintain the ATR road property but there is no proper response either from NHIDCL or from the contractor. Due to such latches and negligence’s of the agencies/contractor, the Baratang Islanders are in anger mood and planning to start agitation shortly, if the roads not repaired urgently” they said.
They also mentioned in the letter that if repairing of the entire stretch is not done within a week, they will have no option but to start agitation on ATR road with chakka jam/road block by the residents of the Baratang villagers.
