Port Blair, Jun 17: On the call of Indian Medical Association, the Doctors in Andaman’s Health Department and other Doctors from private hospitals and clinics today observed token strike against the brutal mob assault on Doctors in Kolkata and also to show solidarity with medical professionals across the country.
Dr. Thulasi Dasan, the President of Indian Medical Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands today told Andaman Sheekha, Daily, that the doctors of Andaman and Nicobar Islands in response to the instruction from president IMA HQ New Delhi, had decided to organize token strike in Andaman and wear black badges.
“The instruction contained in the letter received from president IMA HQ New Delhi was to organized 24 hours strike but we the association of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, IMA yesterday conducted a meeting and decided to organize only two hours token strike, from 8.30 AM to 10.30 AM, so that patients in Andaman are not harassed. After 10:30 all the doctors continued their duty till they attended their last patient,” Dr. Thulasi Dasan said.
Dr. M K Saha, the vice president of Indian Medical Association, A & N Islands told Andaman Sheekha that the OPD and non-essential service were suspended for two hours in all government and private hospital, nursing homes and clinics from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. However all emergency casualty and in-patients services remained unaffected.
Later at 3.30 PM a peacefully march was also organized by Doctors of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
