Port Blair, June 16: Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Lt. Governor of A&N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency attended fifth meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog held on 15.06.2019 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
With respect to Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the Lt. Governor highlighted impetus being given to Agriculture/Fisheries sector by Red Oil Palm plantation and seaweed cultivation, pilot projects and feasibility studies. Direct export of Fisheries/Marine products by opening offices of Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) and Export Inspection Agency (EIA) in A&N Islands itself was requested.
The issues of additional land availability for Compensatory Afforestation in forest deficient states and expediting of Tourism Projects were also taken up.
