Port Blair, Jun 10: A large number of residents of Calicut village South Andaman today organized a protest and road blockage at Birdline Junction, since 6.00 AMthis morning.
Angry protesters were demanding immediate repair of existing road from Birdline Junction to Pema Junction via Calicut village.

The protest was attended by nearly 200 peoples, and around 10:00 AM the newly elected Member of Parliament, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma reached the spot and heard problems of the people.
The MP then directed the APWD officials, who reached there, to take up this matter immediately. As per details the senior officers of APWD requested for a time period of 30 days to start the work.
Further at around 10:40 AM the people of Calicut area called off the protest following the intervention of Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Member of Parliament.
However, people of the area made it clear that if the road repair work does not start within 30 days they will start another massive protest.
