Port Blair, May 21: The Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Mithakhari requested the Chief Secretary of A&N Administration, Port Blair to solve the grievances of the public and residents of the Panchayat regarding improvement and widening of State Highway from Ograbraj Junction to Saithankhari Junction via Mithakhari which was a long pending demand as the State Highway connects three Gram Panchayat namely Mithakhari, Namunaghar & Brindaban.
Pradhan, Mithakhari in a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Port Blair said that the work has been tendered by EE RCD Wimberlygunj and the work has also been awarded but till now no work has yet been started on ground level.
He added that motorists and residents of all the revenue villages have been suffering heavily for the bumpy roads. Owing to bad condition of the roads, the residents are having a harrowing experience. The pothole laden stretch connects many villages in the region, dissuades bus drivers and other transport means to access the area, while motor vehicle owners reel under colossal damage to their vehicles. “Giant craters and potholes in these roads have literally become a death trap to motorists. Bus drivers are also finding it hard to navigate through the gaping potholes,” he said.
Besides, the road has become risky for motorists, particularly at night, he said.
Road accidents are frequent in this stretch as motorists are unable to gauge the depth of the potholes when it is filled with muddy water. Due to these problems and circumstances faced the distressed public is ready to organise an agitation, said Pradhan, Mithakhari.
