Port Blair, May 13: It seems summer vacations is going to bring bagful of troubles for people living in remote islands and those who wish to travel to these Islands, as the Directorate of Shipping services have now confirmed that due to various technical reasons the vessels MV Bharat Seema and MV Kalighat have been withdrawn from services.
“In view of the non-availability of these two vessels, the Inter Island connectivity is likely to be disturbed as this Directorate will be reducing the frequency of schedule to various Inter Islands by rescheduling,” a release from Deputy Director Shipping said here today.
The Directorate of Shipping Services have now requested the passengers to plan their journey accordingly, till the normalcy is restored.
As the helicopter services is always considered to be reserved only for VIPs, shipping is the only life line for people living in remote Islands, especially Nicobar group of Islands. After withdrawal of two ships now it will be too difficult for people to commute between Islands.
